Welsh

Statom

. . . Perez said she had been upset by Statom's behavior during the election board meeting and statements he made that she said degraded young voters.

"(Statom) referred to us as 'You people'" she said. "I was very offended by that."

Perez and David Staggs, another BSU student working for the local Obama campaign, wanted to make certain registrations would be processed by the voter registration office.

"(Statom) did not seem very happy that we were stating those opinions," she said.

Statom, also secretary of the Delaware County Republican Central Committee, declined comment after the incident.

Sheriff's deputies took Statom to the justice center for questioning after Werner filed a battery affidavit.

. . .

Statom is the appointment of Republican Party Chairman Kaye Whitehead as the Republican member of the county board of voter registration.

"I certainly do not condone his behavior, but on the other hand, every employee has rights," said Whitehead, who expected Statom to get back to work and do his job.

"As far as I'm concerned, we've got to have him in there to get these things processed," Whitehead said. . . .

I encourage MyDD members to support the Democratic party efforts in Indiana by contacting Delaware County officials at: http://www.co.delaware.in.us/boards/

Statom should be fired immediately!!

This defense of his assault "but on the other hand, every employee has rights," cracked me up

Wow, the NERVE of him calling them "you people".
Talk about an offensive slur worthy of violence!

Not.

Since the guy resorted (2.00 / 1)

to violence to back it up, I assume you voted that he should be canned.

you miss the point (none / 0)

it was the speaker of words "those people" who threw the punch when someone took issue with the use of the phrase.  They apparently don't have a right to express that opinion without fear of being assaulted?

I voted undecided. (2.00 / 1)

In other circumstances I would have voted to toss him out but it would leave the office shorthanded at a really bad time.  Sometimes a knuckle-dragger is better than nothing...maybe.

It's a tough one... (2.00 / 2)

...but even shorthanded, they can't trust this guy.

Temp agencies often have very well qualified administrative personel available on short notice.  Surely one of his co-workers can take his place and they can bring on temps to do the busywork.

I thought about that. (2.00 / 1)

But I've had some bad experiences with temps too.  I'll call myself undecided, leaning toward they should fire him and take their chances.

Re: I thought about that. (2.00 / 1)

I've been a temp myself, and a lot of my co-workers started as temps; while a lot of the animosity is warranted, the risks are lower than the benefits, and sometimes you get a true gem of an employee from the process.

In this case, if I were the boss, I'd rather roll the dice on a temp than keep this brute.

Kick him to the curb. (2.00 / 3)

A man who will resort to violence based off of being told to "shut up" is not a man I want registering voters.

I've dealt with bullies like him before; you can't say "well he has the right to do his job" if he's proven that he'll beat up the advocates for the democratic process.  Especially now that he's been called into question; everything he does with regards to the voter registration would have to be re-checked anyway.  Can him.

Man, I'm a victim of disappointment in some of my felow Democrats here on this page. There is NO WAY in HELL this guy gets to keep his job after his episode.
We have a razor-tight election comming up in the fall and some of 'you people'  have no problems with a guy who has a propsensity of hitting co-workers being involved in the process? What is this? The Deep South in the 1960's?
I can guarantee you this is not the first time he has done this.

If the situation was reversed, you can rest assured that Welsh would have to step down.

I am disappointed that MyDD largely ignored this story, and is bickering over delegate selection and how McCain will beat one or the other DEM in the GE!
